Embark on a city tour of Quebec City bundling up to wander through Old Quebec and among the stalls of the German Christmas Markets.

​Day to Day Itinerary 

Wednesday, December 3 | Arrive Montreal

Montreal during Christmas time is a winter wonderland where the city sparkles with festive lights, holiday markets, and a magical atmosphere. The streets are adorned with twinkling decorations, especially around Old Montreal, which is filled with cobblestones charm and a European feel. Visitors can enjoy the famous Christmas Village at Place des Arts, warm up with a hot chocolate and skate at the outdoor rinks. Snow covers the city (l hope!), adding to the charm of cozy cafes, holiday shopping and the vibrant cultural scene making it a perfect destination for celebrating the season.

Transfer to the hotel on your own. Check into the hotel and rest up, have some dinner until we meet for a cocktail hour. We will then walk to the Aura Light show at the Notre Dame Basilica.

Thursday, December 4 | Montreal

After breakfast at the hotel, get ready to wander the historic streets of Old Montreal with a local guide from Victoria Square to Bonsecours Market discovering the secrets of Christmases past. See Old Montreal in a new light and get wrapped up in the holiday spirit!  On the tour we will explore the historic district during this magical time of year and succumb to its winter charm. As well be introduced to the origins of holiday traditions that have been part of our culture for many years. Admire the lively shop windows and sparkling decorations of Old Montreal shops, museums and hotel lobbies. Pass by Place d'Armes, the Notre Dame Basilica or even Jacques-Cartier Place that all local festive during this time of year.

We will follow up with an Old Montreal Culinary tour. On this guided culinary walking we will learn to appreciate the city’s culture thanks to a perfect blend of history and gastronomy. During the tour we will indulge in sweet and savory bites.

Tonight is at our leisure. Maybe try ice skating at the nearby Esplanade Tranquille skating rink. You can rent skates and you can also learn a few moves from instructors.

Friday, December 5 | Montreal to Quebec City

Check out of the hotel after breakfast at the hotel and we will transfer by bus from Montreal to Quebec City.

Quebec City in winter is a picturesque, snowy paradise straight out of a fairytale. The cobblestone streets of Old Quebec, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are lined with charming buildings and twinkling holiday lights, creating a magical atmosphere.

Late afternoon we will taste the festivities at Quebec City's German Christmas Market, featuring nearly 125 local artisans and producers for your enjoyment. On this tour, you'll learn about the history of this unique event in Quebec City, which began in 2008, as well as about the history of Christmas markets in Germany, which dates back to the 13th century.

Along the way, you'll sample products typical of German culture — spiced mulled wine (glühwein), pretzels and traditional cake (stollen). The tour is offered for a limited time only, so don't miss your chance to discover this enchanting Christmas Market! The tour takes place entirely outdoors, so remember to dress warmly.

This evening is at your leisure to explore the market.

Saturday, December 6 | Quebec City

After breakfast at the hotel, we will enjoy a guided tour of Old Quebec and Petit Champlain with a hot chocolate along the way. Experience Quebec's Christmas traditions as you admire the Christmas decor in the heart of Old Quebec and Petit-Champlain. You'll be delighted by the stories and historical anecdotes told by a licensed local guide dressed in period costume.

In the afternoon, learn how to make your Christmas Buche de Noel with the experts. Enjoy this pastry course + a box of pastries to take away at the end of the course! Taxes and drink not included. FYI! Take home with you or donate to local kitchen. 

The rest of the day is at your leisure to explore the markets.

Sunday, December 7 | Quebec City

After breakfast at the hotel we will experience the castle life at the Chåteau Frontenac during a guided tour of this iconic hotel located on one of the most beautiful sites in Quebec City. You will discover the famous characters and historical events that have shaped the identity of the Fairmont Chåteau Frontenac over the years, as well as its architectural development and rejuvenation process undergone in the recent years.

Rest of the day is at your leisure to explore the Christmas Markets and Petit Champlain Quarter. Markets are open until 6:00 pm on Sundays.

 

You will have time before and after dinner to walk in the cobblestoned streets, one of the oldest shopping streets in North America. The street is also beside the beautiful neighborhood of Place-Royale, the site of the original settlement of Samuel de Champlain in 1608.


Monday, December 8 | Departure from Quebec City

Breakfast included at hotel. Transfer to Quebec City airport dependent on flight departure times.

Your tour ends today. May your memories be full of holiday cheer!

December in Montreal and Quebec City brings a true winter experience, with temperatures often dipping below freezing. The crisp air and festive atmosphere make for a magical setting, but dressing appropriately is key to enjoying your time outdoors. Layering is essential—think warm coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and thermal wear to stay cozy while exploring. Since both cities have historic districts with charming but uneven cobblestone streets, comfortable, insulated, and slip-resistant walking shoes or boots are highly recommended to navigate the terrain safely. With the right gear, you’ll be able to fully embrace the beauty of these winter wonderlands.
